Psychologists help people change their thinking and behavior. A two-year Master of Arts in Counselling Psychology is offered by the Department of Psychology. This full-time degree is offered at the Kingsway campus (APK), in Auckland Park, Johannesburg. It leads to registration as a counseling psychologist with the Professional Board of Psychology. This is a contact-tuition program. The language of instruction in this programme is English. You will not be allowed to work part-time or full time due to the requirements of lecture-attendance and coursework.

Higher Certificate is a NQF Level 5 qualification for one year that provides an introduction into counselling, communication, and academic literacy. Graduates can use their skills in the workplace, and they are well-positioned to continue studying within the social sciences. You may also be eligible for the SACAP Bachelor of Applied Social Science. Credit transfer is possible for a number of modules in the first year.

FOR THE COLLEGE HUMAN SCIENCES: Students must choose from first-level modules in Psychology or Industrial and Organizational Psychology. Students choosing Psychology as a major subject should include the first-level module in Anthropology, (APY1501), and the module in Philosophy (Critical Reasoning), (PLS2601) in their curriculum.

The Department of Psychology in Faculty of Humanities awards the MA degree in Clinical Psychology from UCT. The Head of Psychology and the Dean of Faculty of Humanities are responsible for the direction and convenor of the program. This degree is a professional qualification that, after the required internship and community service, can lead to registration with the Health Professions Council of South Africa's (HPCSA) Professional Board for Psychology.
